Golfer’s Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis)

Golfer’s Elbow is a common overuse injury that affects the tendons on the inner side of the elbow, often caused by repetitive wrist flexion and gripping motions. While frequently seen in golfers, it also affects athletes in baseball, weightlifting, climbing, and throwing sports. It can cause discomfort during training, limit grip strength, and interfere with athletic performance if left untreated.

Causes and Risk Factors:

  • Repetitive wrist and forearm use, especially with poor mechanics
  • Forceful gripping in sports like golf, baseball, or strength training
  • Muscle imbalances between the wrist flexors and extensors
  • Weak shoulder or core stability placing more strain on the elbow
  • Improper equipment use or overtraining

What Happens If Left Untreated?

If not addressed, Golfer’s Elbow can lead to persistent pain, reduced grip strength, limited range of motion, and difficulty with both sport and everyday tasks. Continued overuse may increase the risk of tendon degeneration or tear.
