Patellar Tendonitis (Jumper’s Knee)

Patellar tendonitis, also known as Jumper’s Knee, is an injury to the tendon that connects the kneecap (patella) to the shinbone. It causes more pain, swelling, and tenderness at the front of the knee, especially during jumping, running, or going up and down stairs.

Causes and Risk Factors:

  • Repetitive jumping or running, common in sports like basketball, volleyball, or track
  • Sudden increase in activity or training intensity
  • Tight or weak thigh muscles, putting extra stress on the tendon
  • Poor movement or landing technique
  • Wearing improper footwear
  • Previous knee injuries or tendon strain

What Happens If Left Untreated?

If not treated, patellar tendonitis can cause chronic pain, more tendon damage, and reduced the knee strength, making it harder to run, jump, or play sports.

How Premier Care Can Help:

  • Manual Therapy: Hands-on care to relieve tight muscles and reduce pressure on the tendon
  • Therapeutic Exercises: Stretching and strengthening to support the knee and help the tendon heal
  • Pain Relief Treatments: Ice, heat, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation to calm pain and reduce swelling
  • Jumping and Movement Training: Teaching proper form to protect the knee during activity
