Hip Labral Tear

A hip labral tear is when the ring of cartilage (labrum) around the hip joint becomes torn or damaged. The labrum helps keep the joint stable, so when it's injured, it can cause sharp pain, clicking or locking, stiffness, and trouble moving the hip.

Causes and Risk Factors:

  • Repetitive hip movements, especially in sports like soccer, hockey, or dance
  • Sudden twisting or pivoting motions
  • Hip injuries or trauma, such as falls or car accidents
  • Structural issues, like hip impingement (bones not fitting together properly)
  • Overuse, especially in athletes or active individuals
  • Previous hip problems or surgeries

What Happens If Left Untreated?

If not treated, a hip labral tear can lead to ongoing pain, reduced hip mobility, joint instability, and a higher risk of developing hip arthritis over time.
