Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles tendonitis is inflammation of the Achilles tendon, the thick band of tissue connecting the calf muscles to the heel bone. It commonly occurs due to overuse or strain, leading to pain and stiffness in the lower leg.

Causes & Risk Factors

This condition often develops due to:

  • Repetitive strain from running, jumping, or sudden activity increases.
  • Poor biomechanics, including flat feet or improper footwear.
  • Lack of stretching, resulting in tight calf muscles pulling on the tendon.
  • Aging or wear-and-tear, making the tendon more vulnerable to injury.

What Happens If Left Untreated?

Without proper care, Achilles tendonitis can worsen, leading to:

  • Chronic pain that affects mobility and daily activities.
  • Tendon degeneration, increasing the risk of partial or complete rupture.
  • Reduced flexibility, limiting athletic performance and movement confidence.
